8medium-sized applespeeled and cut into slices (I used Empire apples)
12ozcan red tart pitted cherries in waterdrained (I use Oregon brand)
1cupuncooked old fashioned oats
½cuppacked brown sugar
1teaspooncinnamon
⅛teaspoonground nutmeg
6tablespoonslight butter(I use Land O’Lakes Light Butter with Canola Oil spread in the tub)
Instructions
Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees.
Spread the sliced apples across the bottom of an 8x13 baking dish in layers (mine made about three layers of apple slices). Sprinkle the drained cherries over the top of the apple slices.
In a mixing bowl, combine the oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and stir until thoroughly combined. Add the butter and stir together using a fork, a spoon, or clean hands until well combined. Sprinkle the oat mixture in chunks over the top of the fruit in the baking dish. Transfer to the heated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes until the apples are tender and the oat topping is golden brown. Serve with optional whipped cream if desired!
